An 80-year-old woman has sparked outrage after she left her entire estate to her pets, ignoring her children in the will.

According to reports, Ms. Liu from Shanghai, whose exact age has not been confirmed, changed her will to blame her children for neglecting her in her later years, particularly after she got sick.

In her will, Ms. Liu wrote that her pets had provided her with "comfort and companionship" during her autumn years, and that this was "worth the two-and-a-half million dollars" she had left them.

However, the will has raised legal issues, as it is not legally permissible to pass on inheritances to animals in China.

The estate is currently being managed by a veterinary clinic, and legal challenges have already been raised against the bequest.

Now officials are looking for other ways to resolve this unusual situation.

An official at China’s Will Registration Centre (WRC) in Beijing, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Liu’s “current will” is one way to resolve the issue.

“We would advise her to appoint someone she trusts to oversee the vet clinic,” the official said. “This is not the first time Ms. Liu has taken such a measure.”

In her will, Ms. Liu left her $12 million fortune to her dog, Trouble, but none to her four grandchildren, Craig, Meegan, or any of her other grandchildren.

“I have not included any provisions in my will for reasons known to me,” Ms. Liu wrote in the will.

In 1989, the real estate billionaire, known as the “Queen of Mean,” reportedly told a housekeeper that “we don’t pay taxes.” Helmsley denied making the statement, which she later said she had made to her daughter-in-law.

The case received a lot of attention, and a judge eventually ordered that the amount left to Trouble be reduced to just $2 million.

It's a rough day for Trouble.
