After learning the reasons behind his retirement from one of his coworkers, the community came together to support this devoted and industrious man.

Following 42 years of employment at the same company, a woman named Sonia was devastated by the treatment of her colleague. Determined to make a positive impact, she took to social media.

Sonia disclosed on TikTok that John, one of her coworkers, had been doing the same job for over 40 years for minimum wage. She says that on John's last day, he received a certificate and a retirement barbecue—after 42 years!

Many of his coworkers believed that John, who is in his 70s, should have received more. As a result, Sonia made a GoFundMe page for John and posted a narrative video.

In her first video, she saw John working in what appeared to be a warehouse unit on his last day. The lengthy caption that read, "My coworker's last day is today," was displayed on the screen. He spent 42 years working for this company and was paid the minimum wage."

"The company only gave him a barbecue and a certificate," she continued. "He takes the bus and the Bart train to get here on time every day. He is over 70 years old.

He had no desire to retire as he adores his job here immensely. [He received] a certificate and a barbecue, but no bonus. Don't let your work control you. John, I appreciate your loyalty.

And since the GoFundMe page was created for John back in October, over $95,000 has been raised!

John was listed as "one of the most talented and hard-working" workers at the company by Sonia, who also mentioned how "extremely dependable" John was.

He was always eager to work, Sonia said, so it was difficult to persuade him to take time off.  "No matter how many times we told him to take some time off, he still wanted to work," she continued.

Is there anything more we can do to help John celebrate his retirement? Or perhaps just some uplifting thoughts and words of support to help him get through the remainder of his days," she wrote.

He doesn't have a wife or children, but he has a nephew he loves very much. It would be nice to have company or do something for him so he knows. He's unique and cherished," she said in closing.

Several generous donors also left encouraging and laudatory comments for John on the page.

John, you amaze me with your dedication and work ethic. Regards and best wishes for a well-earned retirement are extended to you. God bless you, sir," a user commented.

"John, you are an inspiration!" exclaimed someone else. God bless you, John. My middle son is also named John, and I hope that when he grows up, he will have the same values as you did all these years: hard work, devotion, gratitude, and a positive outlook!

Margaret extended her heartfelt congratulations to John on his well-deserved retirement, expressing her sincere hope that he would thoroughly enjoy this new chapter in his life. She also conveyed her blessings and affection, along with her best wishes for his future endeavors.

"John, your devotion and diligence are an inspiration! The world would be a better place with more people who possess your qualities. From NYC, all the best to you!" said a third.

Additionally, at the end of October, Sonia posted a video on social media featuring a beaming John declaring that the money had been received and was now securely stored in his bank account.

We hope John enjoys a very happy retirement; you deserve it!
