A 'fake' lawyer who reportedly won all 26 of his cases despite having no legal training has been arrested in Kenya.
According to the BBC, the person using the name Brian Mwenda has been accused of being a "masquerader" who stole the identity of a real lawyer named Brian Mwenda Ntwiga.
According to local media, the "fake lawyer" prevailed in all 26 of his cases in various Kenyan courts despite not having any formal legal training.
But when his situation sparked public indignation and the Nairobi Branch of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) received numerous complaints, he has now been taken into custody by the Rapid Action Team of the branch.

The 'fake lawyer' (pictured here) won all 26 of his cases in various Kenyan courts - despite not having any legal training, according to local media |
He allegedly used the society's portal to access a man with the same name's account information and changed it before posting his own photo and claimed to have legal training.
The LSK said that the ‘real’ Brian Ntwiga reached out to them after accessing his account and discovering that some of the details had been altered.
The LSK stated that on the 5th day of August 2022 the Bar admitted Mr Ntwiga to the Bar, with the correct e-mail address recorded and an Account created for him on the Lawyers portal.
According to the LSK, they contacted Mr Ntwiga and he confirmed that since his admission he has not applied for any practising certificate.
This is due to the fact that he was working at the Attorney General’s Office and did not need any Practising Certificate at that time.
He didn't notice he couldn't access his LSK Portal until some time in September 2023, when he tried to enter into the system and activate his profile in preparation for applying for his practising certificate.
"The Branch wishes to notify all members of the society and of the public that BRIAN MWENDA NJAGI is not an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, from the Society's records, nor is he a member of the Branch," the LSK's Nairobi Branch stated on X, formerly Twitter.
Others thought the 'fake lawyer' was outstanding despite the fury the case generated, particularly among legal professionals.
He was a "brilliant young mind," according to Kenya's Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU), who succeeded "without traditional qualifications," the BBC was told.

Mike Sonko, a contentious former governor of Nairobi, who appeared in a video with the man on X, is another of the man's fans.
"I would like to express my gratitude to the people who are supporting me and praying for me... in the fullness of time I will be able to clear up this misunderstanding," the man standing next to Mr. Sonko added.
In the tweet, Mr. Sonko, who has been accused of drug trafficking and money laundering throughout his political career, stated that the fictitious Mr. Mwenda will visit a police station to give a statement.
Director of Public Prosecutions for Kenya, Renson Mulele Ingonga, has stated that Mr. Mwenda may be prosecuted after giving the Inspector General of the National Police Service instructions to conduct an inquiry.
In a statement on Saturday, he noted that there had been an upsurge in incidents of "unqualified persons" posing as Kenyan High Court solicitors.
