10-year-old Boy initiates petition to get Apple replace 'nerd' glasses emoji

A young kid has initiated a petition requesting that Apple modify its "offensive and insulting" emoji of glasses.

BBC

Teddy, ten years old, from Peppard, Oxfordshire, feels the icon conveys the incorrect idea of people who wear glasses because of its prominent front teeth.

The emoji has been redesigned by the proud owner of spectacles, replacing the toothy grin with a tiny smile.

In his statement to the BBC, he expressed his desire to alter the current situation, emphasizing that Apple's actions have made it extremely unpleasant for individuals who wear glasses.

Apple has been contacted by the BBC for comment.

Teddy said, "They're making people think we're nerds and it's absolutely horrible."In addition to making me feel depressed and angry, thousands of other people must also find it offensive if I do."

Teddy hopes the tech giant will use his redesigned icon, which he calls the genius emoji. The icon is commonly known as the nerd emoji.

The lenses are thin and the frames are thin, and then there's a little bit of a smile on the face instead of those terrible rabbit teeth.

He expressed his fondness for glasses, citing their ability to improve his vision and enhance his appearance.

Teddy saw the offensive emoji while texting his cousin, which gave him the idea to launch his campaign.

He spoke to Lisa, his teacher, and she helped him start an online petition and a schoolwide petition to get Apple to change its practices.

I admire him for being inquisitive and for standing up for what he believes is right,” she said.

He expresses his thoughts openly, yet in a mature fashion, and I am of the opinion that such behavior deserves to be supported and commended.

Teddy said he would "feel amazing and I'd be so excited" if Apple adopted his ideas.
