In August, Rowan Jette Knox, formerly known as Amanda Jette Knox, announced on social media that he was "re-introducing" himself as a transgender man.
The writer and activist from Toronto is following in the footsteps of his spouse, who became a wife, and his son, who became a daughter, by starting testosterone earlier this week.
After 19 years of marriage, Knox's wife Zoe—formerly known as Mark—came out as transgender in July 2015. Early in2014, Alexis, the couple's daughter, came out as transgender.

Although Rowan acknowledges that he was born into that body, it took him a while to come to terms with his natural gender.
In the same Toronto home as their transsexual lovers, Dame and Dani, are Rowan and Zoe. Dame and Dani are also romantically involved.
Rowan refers to this unusual partnership as a "polycule." Before coming out as transgender, he had told PinkNews that he was happy to discover he was non-binary, saying, "Trans joy is contagious."

"It is with joy, relief, and quite a bit of anxiety that I introduce myself to you as Rowan Jette Knox," the writer wrote in a post on his Instagram account. I am a transgender man going through a medical transition, and moving forward, I will only use the pronouns he/him."
"It took finding the courage to say it out loud, even though I've known this is who I am for a long time," he concluded. To get here, months of introspective therapy, protracted talks with loved ones, a great deal of crying, and a great deal of dread and denial were required."
Knox revealed that he and Zoe started a polyamorous relationship with Dani and Dame, another transgender couple, in a piece that was released last month.
After getting in touch with Dani last year to talk about an encounter she had, Knox wrote about their first meeting. Before concluding they were in love, Knox claimed the two "immediately bonded in a way I rarely do these days."

The two men allegedly "encouraged" their partners to get to know one another after that, according to Knox. Dame and Zoe also began to develop romantic feelings for one another.
In order to begin a new life as a foursome, Knox and his wife then made the decision to relocate from their homeland of Ottawa to Toronto in January of this year. Knox said in his follow-up letter that he had been Rowan to his loved ones "for quite some time now." It is unclear if Knox went by Rowan when he first met Dani.
"We all soon realised that spending more time apart than together was too painful," he wrote. The interval of two weeks between our visits seemed like months.
Following extensive deliberation and meticulous preparation, Zoe and I accomplished something I had vowed never to do.
We decided to take a chance and go to Toronto in order to start over and find new loves. The fact that our children are now adults and that we work remotely helped to ease the move, as did a trying time in my life a few years prior."
Additionally, Alexis, Zoe and Rowan's transgender daughter, came out in the sixth grade. In February 2014, Alexis sent her parents an email revealing her gender identity. Alexis and Rowan, who went by Amanda at the time, had taken part in a Microsoft video series called My 24 Hours.
Regarding her choice to take part in the series, Alexis stated, "My family has always been really welcoming. Gender norms were never imposed by us.
Since I was so concerned about what my parents would think, sending an email seemed like the easiest option for me. It's a very difficult thing to accomplish when you genuinely don't know."
Regarding Alexis' coming out, Rowan had written in a blog post from 2020 that the world was much more binary at the time and that "when she came out to us at eleven, she had limited language to describe what she was feeling."

She can convey her self-perception more readily now that she is seventeen. She wished for everyone to understand that her identity is non-binary, including us."
"Not only did she share this news with us, but she also updated her social media biography and openly talked about it with everyone." In addition to Alexis, Rowan and Zoe have two boys.
Knox has previously written about the viral nature of "trans joy" in a piece for Pink News. It’s what the world needs now more than ever. Without a doubt, trans joy is an act of strength and defiance in today's environment."
