If you’ve been on the internet in the last few weeks, then you’re probably familiar with the term ‘Stanley cup’.
The insulated containers are all over the internet right now, and they’re only getting more popular after one woman discovered that her Stanley had ice in it, even after it was in a car fire!
So it’s no surprise that there’s a lot of interest in getting your hands on a Stanley cup, but according to police in California, some people are willing to go to great lengths to get one.
According to a post on Facebook, officers responded to a call to a retail store after a woman allegedly stole a Stanley cup worth ,500.
In the post, police urged people not to turn to crime as a way to ‘fulfill their hydration habits’.
According to store staff, a woman pushed a shopping cart filled with Stanley cups out the door without paying, and even after staff called her to stop, she kept going.
According to police, the suspect then entered her vehicle and loaded it with the stolen items before driving away.
A short time later, a police officer spotted the suspect's vehicle on Highway 65 near Galleria Blvd in the small town of Roseville (Placer County, northeast of Sacramento).
The cop stopped the suspect and took her into custody for committing Grand Theft.
After a search of the vehicle, the police found 65 Stanley products with a total value of almost two and a half thousand dollars.
The police posted images of the stolen bottles found in the car's trunk and strewn across the footwell.
A photo of the stolen things was also released, showing them arranged on the bonnet of a police car.
At the end of the post, the Roseville police wrote, "Stanley Quenchers may be popular right now, but we urge you not to resort to crime to satisfy your thirst for hydration."
The Roseville police department remains dedicated to preventing retail theft.
The post follows turmoil in supermarkets earlier this month as customers rushed to get their hands on a limited-edition Stanley cup, which was released for Valentine's Day.
Fans of the company waited up from 3 a.m. to get their hands on the cup, which came in red and pink.
