There's nothing more aggravating than having to share a restaurant bill when you only had water and an appetizer while everyone else had $12 cocktails and a three-course meal.
One man was outraged after paying $150 for mozzarella sticks and water, leaving him unable to afford a taxi home.
TikTok user Steve Guarino was observed going home in the snow after his companions decided to eat lobster and split the cost.
He continued, saying, "Imagine me driving you back home after your buddies decided to split the bill equally, even though I ordered mozzarella sticks while they enjoyed lobster."
In the post, he wrote, "Couldn't afford the Uber cuz of the $150 water and mozz sticks."
The video appears to have struck a chord with other TikTokers, as it garnered hundreds of thousands of views in just a few weeks.
One commenter wrote, "Normalize not feeling bad about paying only for what you ordered."
Another stated, "I'm the friend who performs the arithmetic and divides the tip and taxes equally. Then I inform everybody what they owe."
One person mentioned, "My buddies and I usually split the bill evenly. We pay for our own orders and share the tip."
Another person admitted to skipping dinner so they wouldn't have to pay for other people's drinks.
"I skipped dinner tonight because I don't drink, and I'm not chipping in for Tina's fifth margarita," one stated, to which Stevie responded, "Tina needs to chill."
Choosing whether to split the bill can be a difficult scenario.
In a 2021 research of diners conducted by comparethemarket.com, 34 percent felt the bill should be divided evenly, while 36 percent said it should be divided based on what each individual ordered.
Almost half stated they felt embarrassed about the situation.
Other TikTokers discussed how they handle the conversation, with one disclosing that they always leave early.
"And this is why I always plan to leave 20-30 minutes early... and pull the server aside and tell them to bring me my check separately cuz I have somewhere to be," they went on to say.
And another added: "As a server, simply inform your server from the start that it will be divided checks, if they are permitted to split it by item. Some localities have implemented "no."
"No, I notify the server that my tab is distinct when I place my order. "I'm not playing these games," said a third.
