In an effort to break his smoking habit, a lifelong smoker who was desperate to stop has chosen to place his head inside a metal cage.

Not everyone will go to the extremes like this man did once he decided to kick his smoking addiction, but some people will go to considerable lengths to overcome a bad addiction.

Ibrahim Yücel, a Turkish journalist, reportedly started smoking two packs of cigarettes a day at the age of sixteen, according to Hürriyet. However, Yücel decided to resign for the sake of his family's wellbeing and his own after his father, 52, tragically died of lung cancer.

He's tried multiple times to break the habit, but his attempts have never succeeded. Yücel was therefore inspired to design a "head cage" that would stop him from smoking a cigarette after seeing an effective health campaign featuring motorcycle riders wearing safety helmets.

The father, who is from the western province of Kütahya, used 40 metres of copper wire to create the strange helmet, which has the appearance of a bird cage, to make sure that smoking is impossible, even if his willpower fails.

Furthermore, Hürriyet revealed that the resolute man prevented himself from breaking his promise to himself by giving his wife or daughter the keys to the complex gadget every morning.

In addition, it's thought that Yücel can only drink water and eat crackers through his heavy, medieval-style headgear, which means that meals must be unlocked for him.

Following the posting of Yücel's narrative and images on Reddit, a user who sympathized with his situation commented, "That is commitment right there," and another said, "Whatever works, works."

A third individual experiencing the same situation said, "Holy crap! I must have this! I couldn't quit smoking for anything! I've stated before that I would require six months of isolation in a padded room, but this seems more realistic."

A fourth joked in the meanwhile, saying, "This would completely destroy me. Even with their eyes closed, my eyes throb so much when I look through a grid, fence, or anything else; they somehow focus on what I know is there. Basically, this is my hell."

The International Business Times revealed at the time that Yücel's wife and daughter had been encouraging him in his pursuits, even though they were ashamed of his somewhat ridiculous outfit.

However, video showed small children being astounded by the unusual spectacle as he walked by, suggesting that his neighbors found it difficult to get used to the sight of his head covered in metal.

However, it appears that Yücel unintentionally ended up being the spokesperson for the strongest anti-smoking campaign ever.
